Girls Varsity Soccer
Sat 2/11 – Varsity vs American Nicaraguan School @ Sports Slam starting at 8:45
This Saturday, the girls on the soccer team woke up ready to play in the final of the Copa Fuente Pura. A large crowd gathered to watch. The game started a little late, but that did not faze the girls as they started strong. Our girls were aggressive and did everything they could to stop ANS. Based on what they had seen from ANS in prior games, Head Coach Mr. Quiroz set the Eagles up rather defensively. This meant that we had more people stopping ANS goals, but fewer trying to score some for our own team. There were many shots on the NCAI goalie, Sabina Zeledon, but the opposing team did not actually score until later in the first half. After the first half of the game, the score was 1-0 with ANS in the lead. This didn’t put the NCAI team down, however, because of the great crowd encouraging them. In the second half, our girls played more offensively and got close to scoring a few times, but ANS still pushed back hard and was able to score two more goals. The game ended with a loss of 3-0, but the NCAI team and crowd left with smiles on their faces, knowing that they had fought hard. Compared to their last game against ANS, this was a huge accomplishment and NCAI should be very proud.
