A classic of english literature, Wuthering Heights was written by Emily Bronte, and published in 1847. The book was written shortly before Emily’s death the next year. A controversial book when published, Wuthering Heights is one of the most mature literature books that we read at NCA. It deals with hard topics such as child abuse, domestic violence and neglect. The book is divided into two parts with different protagonists for each, and takes place in both the present and future. The story deals with the lives of the Earnshaw family, and how they are changed by the coming of a boy named Heathcliff.

I personally think that this is the finest book I have ever read. It’s exciting, thrilling, sad and captivating. The characters are deep and dynamic. The most brilliant part of the story is how they can deal with incredibly delicate subjects without being too explicit. Rather, they subtly show the emotion and responses of the characters to the situations they face. The characters are presented in such a way that they are likeable, even when their actions are clearly wrong. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys complex literature where the “good” characters are not so easily identifiable.
