“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
— Isaiah 43:18-19

There’s something special about starting new—a feeling of renewal, reformation, and refreshment. Starting new gives you hope for the future, a sense of purpose and drive. However, the best kind of hope is found in God. Trust Him with your fresh start this year, and trust Him with the path ahead.

For some, a new year might mean new school supplies and fresh clothes. For others, it could mean a new opportunity to improve grades or achieve a long-held goal. This year, let it also be a chance to start—or restart—your walk alongside God. If last year didn’t go the way you hoped, allow God to turn the page for you. Trust that His plan is better.

Letting Go of What Holds You Back

Before the new year begins, take a moment to reflect: What’s holding me back? Is it regret over missed opportunities? A friendship that went wrong? Fear of failing?

Isaiah 43:18 reminds us: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” Picture your heart like a moving truck as you step into 2025. What’s weighing it down? Is it filled with heavy rocks of guilt, shame, regret, or insecurity? Let God help you unload those burdens and make space for the new blessings He wants to bring into your life.

Trusting God with the Unknown

Letting go of the past can be freeing, but stepping into the unknown can also feel scary. The uncertainty of what lies ahead may overwhelm you. Instead of letting fear take over, place your trust in the One who holds your future.

Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Trust isn’t always easy. Life doesn’t always go as planned. Friendships fail. Responsibilities feel heavy. Dreams sometimes fall apart. But this year, remind yourself that God is the Author of your story. He knows the plot, He’s in control of the outcome, and He is writing something beautiful—even if you can’t see it yet.

Living in the Present

It’s easy to get caught up in worrying about the future. You might feel like everything you do today determines tommorow. Life moves fast, and it’s important to be prepared. But don’t let the endless thoughts about the future steal the joy of living in the present.

If you only focus on what’s ahead, you’ll miss the life happening right beside you—the people walking with you, the sunsets, the flowers blooming, and the laughter of your friends. Trust God, not just for the future, but for today. His perfect plan is unfolding in every moment.

Taking a Step of Faith

Stepping forward often means leaving your comfort zone. Like Abraham, who left everything familiar to follow God’s call (Genesis 12:1), you may be called to step into the unknown this year.

It’s not always easy, but have faith and trust in God even when the path isn’t clear. Remember, you’re not alone. Jesus is with you, holding your hand every step of the way.

As Philippians 4:13 reminds us: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Trust Him with the trials, uncertainties, and opportunities ahead.

A Prayer for the New Year

“Lord, thank You for this new year and the fresh start it brings. Help me to let go of the regrets, mistakes, and fears that weigh me down. Take control of this year, Lord, and guide me through its joys and challenges. I trust You with my hopes and dreams, knowing Your plan is better than my own. Give me the courage to take the first step, the faith to trust You with the unknown, and the wisdom to live fully in the present. Walk with me every step of the way, and strengthen me through it all. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

This year, embrace the new chapter God is writing for you. Trust Him, live fully, and step forward with courage and faith.
