Sports. It is hard to even attempt to expound on all of the feelings and connotations that the term evokes; there are so many of them that one does not know where to begin. Indeed, one finds that the more “serious” pursuits, like academia or scholarly work, usually have more definite, predictable answers, no matter how complex those answers turn out to be. Be that as it may, it is indisputable that sports play a significant role in shaping culture, a fact which makes them important, if not necessary, objects of research.

Taking as inspiration the recent historical victory of the Chicago Cubs—congratulations to all Cubs fans, and our deepest condolences to our Indian audience—in the MLB World Series, we would like to highlight the sports phenomenon throughout the coming weeks: we’ll be running a special series on the Cubs v. Indians match, presenting the history and curious events surrounding the groundbreaking encounter; in addition, expect to see many other articles focusing on the ramifications of sports in a myriad of fields, like science and the arts. Whether you are the most passionate (insert sport name) ever, or be you totally indifferent about the subject, we invite you to join us in our exploration of sports. Who knows, maybe our publication can spark a latent interest for sports, or perhaps even lead to the birth of new sports writers.
