Directions


You will make a sample button in GIMP (saving as .xcf), then you will export five buttons as .jpg images that you will use for your next assignment.



  1. Create a new folder in your images folder called buttons. This is where you will save all files for this assignment.

  2. Open GIMP and create a new image of 150 pixels wide by 50 pixels high.

  3. Select all (CTRL + A), and then create a new gradient called VistaButton. Note: The new gradient button is on the bottom of the Gradients dock (on the right side of your screen.)

  4. Then complete Steps 3 through 13 from this tutorial. Note: you may choose two other colors, if used consistently.

  5. After completely Step 13 please add the word “Home” in a font of your choice, and centered.

  6. Then make a new layer that makes part of your background look different like the example.

  7. Then save your image as sample.xcf in your buttons folder.

  8. Click the eye of the layer which your background change is on, so you cannot see it.

  9. Then click on File and Save As, and save it with the name “home.jpg”

  10. Click the eye on the layer, (which was off) so that you can see it and Save As home1.jpg”.

  11. Change your text to the word “Family” and then repeat the directionsof #8-10 except saving as “family.jpg” and “family1.jpg”

  12. Make both of the types of buttons for “Hobbies” “School” and “Future”. (Make sure all are saved into your folder called buttons.)

  13. Raise your hand and ask your teacher to grade your assignment on screen.
