Cartoon Drawing

Directions

Draw a cartoon character using Flash.

  1. Find a good picture of your favorite cartoon character. The larger picture the better. (It should be at least 350 pixels tall, assuming your character is standing up.)
  2. Then save the picture and import it into Flash.
  3. Drag it on to the stage, inlarge it if you need to, then lock the layer and name it background.
  4. Create a new layer named transparent. In the Color Mixer panel: change the color to white, and the alpha to 75%.
  5. Then draw a rectangle over the area of the background picture (in the transparent layer) and lock it.
  6. Now you are set to begin drawing your character with all the tools we just learned in the toolbar. A few drawing tips are:

    • Use the Pen tool to draw the outlines.
    • Use many layers. Think about what layers should go on top.
    • Put all the detail lines (not involving fills) on a top layer
    • Use the color dropper to use the same colors as the original.
    • Save your file often.

  7. When your finished add a background and character’s name.
  8. Save file, then export as PNG image.
  9. Copy the saved file to the class folder.
