Directions
Draw a cartoon character using Flash.
- Find a good picture of your favorite cartoon character. The larger picture the better. (It should be at least 350 pixels tall, assuming your character is standing up.)
- Then save the picture and import it into Flash.
- Drag it on to the stage, inlarge it if you need to, then lock the layer and name it background.
- Create a new layer named transparent. In the Color Mixer panel: change the color to white, and the alpha to 75%.
- Then draw a rectangle over the area of the background picture (in the transparent layer) and lock it.
- Now you are set to begin drawing your character with all the tools we just learned in the toolbar. A few drawing tips are:
- Use the Pen tool to draw the outlines.
- Use many layers. Think about what layers should go on top.
- Put all the detail lines (not involving fills) on a top layer
- Use the color dropper to use the same colors as the original.
- Save your file often.
- Use the Pen tool to draw the outlines.
- When your finished add a background and character’s name.
- Save file, then export as PNG image.
- Copy the saved file to the class folder.
